Garage Door Safety and Security

Whether you’re upgrading, repairing, or building new, Action Garage Door delivers tailored designs, smooth operation, and lasting value, all installed by experts for a completely hassle-free experience.

Commercial Garage Door Safety & Security for Idaho Facilities

A commercial overhead door is the largest moving equipment on most sites, and it sits directly in the path of forklifts, delivery vehicles, and staff on foot. When safety mechanisms fail or security is left to an outdated opener, the exposure runs from injury and liability through to after-hours theft of inventory and equipment.

As part of our commercial garage door services, Action Garage Door has provided safety inspections, compliance testing, and access-control upgrades for Idaho facilities since 1996. We help you meet OSHA requirements and local code while keeping the door practical for the people using it every day.

Access Control and Site Security

Commercial door security goes well beyond a keypad at the bay. We install access systems that log who opened which door and when, which matters for multi-tenant buildings, shift changes, and any site where deliveries happen outside staffed hours.

Rolling-code technology prevents signal interception, and we can retrofit it to older systems rather than replacing the whole assembly. For facilities running multiple bays, upgrading to a modern commercial garage door opener is usually the fastest route to consistent access control across the site.

We also integrate door activity with existing surveillance so cameras trigger on open and close events, giving you a record of every access without scrubbing hours of footage.

Safety Systems and OSHA Compliance

Photo-eye sensors and reversing edges are the primary protection against a door closing on a person, vehicle, or load. On high-cycle commercial doors these take real wear, and misalignment is common. We test, align, and replace them as part of every service visit.

Manual release mechanisms need to work reliably during a power failure, and staff need to know how to use them. We inspect these on every call and walk your team through correct operation.

Safety components we inspect and service:

  • Spring tension and cable condition, sized for actual duty cycle
  • Photo-eye alignment and reversing-edge function
  • Door balance and drift testing
  • Track condition and impact damage
  • Weather sealing and threshold integrity

Where a door can no longer be brought into compliance, usually because of structural damage or obsolete components, we’ll say so and quote a replacement rather than patching something that won’t pass.

Preventing Failures Before They Happen

Most safety failures on commercial doors are gradual. A sensor drifts, a cable frays, spring tension falls off. Scheduled maintenance catches these while they’re still adjustments rather than emergencies, and it gives you documentation showing the door was inspected, which is useful if an incident ever gets reviewed.

When something does fail mid-shift, our 24/7 commercial repair service gets the bay secured and operating again.

What This Protects

Proper safety and security work reduces injury risk to your staff and drivers, limits liability exposure, protects inventory and vehicles after hours, and keeps you on the right side of OSHA and local code. It also prevents the kind of unplanned downtime that stops a loading dock cold.

We service commercial clients in Burley, McCall, and Rexburg, and across our full Idaho service area.

Don’t leave your facility exposed with outdated door safety systems. Find your local Action Garage Door team to schedule a commercial safety and security assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How often should commercial door safety features be tested?

Monthly for photo-eyes and manual release on standard-use doors, and more frequently on high-cycle bays. A scheduled maintenance program handles this on a set interval so it doesn’t get missed.

What are the signs our door security needs upgrading?

Openers without rolling-code technology, no record of who accessed which bay and when, remotes still in circulation with former staff, or sensors that trigger intermittently.

Does this help with OSHA compliance?

Yes. We test against current safety requirements, correct what’s out of spec, and document the inspection so you have a record of due diligence.

I was having issues finding the proper bottom door seal for my garage door and (coincidentally?) got one of the cables to unspool. I'm very much a do it yourself guy (licensed contractor) and the service manager, I think Jeff, was very helpful. He got me an updated seal and mount as mine was nearly impossible to find any more, and told me that it was safer to re spool the cable in the up position where it got stuck. Overall I was very happy leaving there with a positive customer service experience and my garage door is working well and now has a good seal again.
